Help us secure Africa’s future by

investing in Africa’s young peacebuilders

About

Unyoke Foundation is an independent, African based, global resource organization that specializes in the intergenerational accompaniment of peacebuilders.

Our mission is to accompany, nurture and link the next generation of passionate peace activists with established practitioners, on their journeys of learning how to lead towards dignity, transformation, healing and impact.

As far as we are aware, such a human thread of flourishing and supported young leaders — especially women — is a first in Africa (rooted in African knowledge systems) and perhaps globally.

What is the challenge?

Unyoke Foundation is currently well supported by Humanity United and Oxfam whose grants enable us to accompany South Sudanese youth in South Sudan and in the refugee camps in Uganda.

These donors have since the beginning of our journey with South Sudanese walked alongside us and intimately understand what it means to invest in long term support for local peacebuilders.

We as the organisation are now faced with the question: what about thousands of aspirant peacebuilders in the rest of Africa who are also in need of support? Unyoke Foundation has a well-established network of peacebuilders, including trusted associates, across Africa whom we would like to be accompanied and supported.

For us to do this we would need to raise funds to contract associates, build the organisational infrastructure and internet platforms, facilitate the travel and communication for accompaniers and those being accompanied and secure appropriate retreat venues.

Our aim is to raise USD 3 million over the next two years.

How do we make a difference?

Unyoke Foundation frames its innovating approach to peacebuilding around the concept of accompaniment. Through this we have witnessed the true impact of our work by the types of commitment and relationships that are built by these young people beyond tribal and ethnic lines.

What we are doing about it

UF has already facilitated 7 unyoke retreats for international peacebuilders, which were almost fully funded by the Executive Directors, a few board members and a few participants who could contribute towards the costs.
Testimonies of the impact of these retreats can be read on our website.

UF has lined up 10 associates who are ready to be deployed to accompany and be accompanied by local peace actors as soon as we have enough funds.

Our revamped interactive website will be up and running by December 20th, 2021.

We are ready to proceed, but we need your support.

Why and how should you support us?

While there are many initiatives to “train” and “empower” people in the peacebuilding field, not enough is done to connect established practitioners with upcoming peace leaders, especially young women. Wells of wisdom lie under-utilised and young peace leaders are often struggling alone. They need to be unyoked and accompanied in ways that re-energise and inspire them.
Led by Nomfundo Walaza, a clinical psychologist and human rights activist with 20+ years’ experience developing impactful conflict mediation and peacebuilding programmes on a global scale, and Chris Spies, Founding Director of Dynamic Stability, facilitator, accompanier and peacebuilder in South Africa and internationally, Unyoke Foundation and its team have, over the last six years, pioneered intergenerational accompaniment and unyoking of peace builders.

Our organisation is fully registered, established, well-respected and we already have processes in place and people on the ground – ensuring the significant impact of your donations.

By partnering with us as a donor and/or social impact investor you help support the next phase of our journey. You help us expand the facilitation of peacebuilding throughout the African continent and the world. We can’t achieve this without YOUR SUPPORT.
